I would not forward this to anyone cleaning up the middle east right now in order to put doubt in their minds about what they are doing. What they are doing is vital and important, whether or not it is profitable, or whether the German's who dealt with Saddam like it. But tough choices are not made easy by some barking head saying so on Sunday morning TV either, and most Americans know this.

On the other hand, paying attention and keeping track of collateral damage motivates us to avoid errors. We should pay attention even when it seems like there are 3 unintended consequences for every good intention. Collateral damage is like feedback about how well we are meeting our goals as a nation, no matter what the French say on the floor of the UN before lunching at Vong. Fuck them too, and all those filthy fuckers who sit by the lake in Geneva and read the time off their hooker's swiss wrist watches.

At the other extreme, a photo like this captures what is right (or wrong) like a broken watch captures the correct time, even if it's just twice per day. While a broken watch should not be used to conduct one's affairs, it can remind us that getting it right counts for something.

Apart from the VOX's rants, and the rest of the horse shit coming out of the media about the POWs on leashes and with hoods over their heads, this photo is an example of one of those unintended things we should all hope to avoid by aware of the issues and the costs of things. In the end, it's one of the best examples I've ever seen yet of what we should pray to avoid:
